September will be a big month for travel and CCAM, and I'm loading my previously recorded audiobook of The Focused Fight. I'm so happy so many people reached out to me to have me and my voice read the book. It won't be perfect, but it's done and ready to share with you through the Substack platform.
Here is what I wrote on my daily in my writing community a few minutes ago:
A huge SHOUT of Thanks to friend and writer Julie Hughes for sticking by me over the past couple of days as I navigated (and highly resisted for far too long) the Substack platform. But…with so many of my favorite writers in Seth Godin's Purple Space and other Akimbo-like programs, that is a place to have things happen—especially podcast-y/audiobooks. Oh, I will not give up this website and blog but work with the two platforms to bring value to my readers in my writing and quilting endeavors.
One major reason I chose Substack is that they easily offer an audiobook format (in a podcast way) —even though I recorded the whole thing (The Focused Fight) last August. Their platform is relatively seamless once the tears I shed are gone, the frustration has dissipated, and I learned the ropes (kind of) on a new platform over the last couple of days. Phew!
Yesterday, I was in the dip. I wanted to throw in the towel (sort of), but I knew if I stuck it out, took my time, and took advantage of targeted help with Julie H., I could get TFF audio recordings out to the world. I’ve been wanting to do so for almost a year. Who knows where it will go, but I know I’m sitting here on my hot seat, thrilled I’ve got a few posts done and more on the way - they are scheduled to be released every day in September.
Last summer, I had the big leap learning curve with Audacity. This last week (I started slowly…) Substack. There is a lot to know when crafting a post and adding audio/videos, of course, but it’s manageable in small but steady bites. That has been this holiday weekend for me thus far (I am itching to sew, too).
The only thing I’m unsure of is getting all my MP3s onto the platform (I suspect they will fly). If not, I’ll re-record. That’s not a problem. I now have a good microphone I bought before recording last year.
If you’d like to take a peek at what I’ve been up to on Substack (in the very beginning stages), please do so and comment if you wish. My podcasts (still the audiobook) will also be on Spotify, Apple Music, and Substack. It's easy to find since the book cover is bright yellow; even on a small screen, it should pop up.
Deep breaths all around.
I’ve got a big day tomorrow to load the first ten chapters (I'm scheduled to release at least one chapter a day). The posts take a bit of time to construct, but I believe in the end, it will all be worth it—even if one person follows along (that’s my aim—always—one person/one family at a time).
bSoleille!
