A Lazy Day & WildT’s Travel Tips - Practical Souvenirs

While I work on highlighting 2024 in a future blog post, where there was, thankfully, a lot of travel (using photos for memories, too), I couldn't help but think of practical souvenirs on those same travels since I really don't. need. a. thing! However, I get swept up in the place I'm visiting and buy something to "remember this time." This, all the while telling myself I need nothing more than the trip. And, no, I didn't buy one of those little light-up Eiffel Tower things from the guys selling them on blankets around this historic must-see. HaHa!

Will travel be a part of your 2025 plans? It's never too early to start booking, whether stateside or international right now.

Today, we slept in. I’m taking this day super slow, unlike me on all fronts. Oh, yes, I slept in on the weekends back in the day, but that was decades ago. It actually felt good on this rainy day to sleep way past 7:00 am!

Upon throwing off the down comforter and the quilt on top, the room's air was chilly (unless we forget, we turn the heat down low overnight/every night). Heading to my hot seat with cold hands, I remembered a souvenir I bought in France this past May - silk and cashmere/mohair fingerless gloves in my favorite color - fuschia! They were still in my backpack with tags, but I kept forgetting about or using them...until today!

While on the Retreat for Writers in The Cevennes, France, in May, we had some writers who were new on the France trip in 2024. Retreaters on the trip last year talked up this cute little silk museum, so we had to return to the same silk museum where I purchased silk scarves last year. I didn't need any more scarves, so instead, I bought fingerless gloves from the little museum shop hosting local artisans. The gloves were made by Mohair de la Pastourelle. Funny thing, I remember a former supervisor I had who wore fingerless gloves due to cool early mornings (Thanks, Gwen!). I was happy that the gloves were not that expensive. I figured this practical and functional souvenir would be great for now and in the future, and they will come in handy for cool mornings when I sit and type at my computer, like Gwen.

Let me add that once I was up and drinking a hot tea this morning, the fingerless gloves worked! I love that these "new gloves" will keep my hands cozy during colder months while allowing me the flexibility to perform tasks like typing on a computer or sewing (I will try soon). The silk/cashmere/mohair gloves I chose are also soft and comfortable, guaranteeing coziness for years to come (that is my hope).

WildT's Travel Tip - While traveling near and far, try to buy something practical or functional - and you, too, can "remember this time...and place."
