A Window to a Snowy Wonderland!

Yep, we got it - snow - despite the “no smell test” yesterday. It’s a winter wonderland out there and I do NOT want any part of it. Perhaps growing up in Cleveland, Ohio (near Lake Erie) with plenty of blizzards and below-zero temperatures for far too many days in my youth, I am done with this c-r-a-p!

Moving south to Maryland in 1996, not only for a job (husband’s) but also a change in weather on the warmer side, had me giddy. We’ve had our share of winter here in the Freestate (past the Mason-Dixon line), but nothing like waking up to -20 degrees and a foot of snow as we did in CLE.

In fact, my father made me (highly encouraged me?) learn to drive in blizzard conditions. Since so many folks he knew lived cradle to the grave in Cleveland, Ohio, he probably never thought his eldest daughter would leave the nest and move elsewhere, not in Ohio. But I am glad he encouraged me to drive in white-out conditions with shovels in the back seat in case we got stuck.

There were a lot of white-knuckle-driving days then.

In Maryland, they shut down the whole state practically when there is a 1/2" of snow (or even forecasted, for that matter). Heck, when we lived in Durham, NC, while son Ryan was battling through his PBMT, Durham was under a storm watch and got precisely 1/2" which brought the whole area to a standstill. Buses were stranded on I40 and kids didn’t get home to 10 pm! It was crazy!!

As long as we keep power, I intend to use my snow day to get ahead on my sewing projects.

Joy Ride Journeys (my second book) will follow closely behind this month and move to the top of the priority list!

One of the strongest winter storms to ever wallop the Buckeye state hit on Jan. 26-27, 1978. Strong winds hammered houses as the so-called “White Hurricane” dumped 27.1 (more in other areas!) inches of snow in Cleveland and several feet elsewhere in Ohio.
