Acckkk! I’m staring down a new “thing” called Substack. I know it has been a game-changer for many, and I will tackle it in baby steps.
A day or two ago, in my writing community, I mentioned that I’d like to start Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by releasing my recorded audiobook, The Focused Fight: A Childhood Cancer Journey: From Mayhem to Miracles. I’m less than a week away, but I am a bit frantic about how the pieces will fall into place.
According to a few other writers I know and follow, there is an answer to getting a book recording out to the world through a platform called Substack, as previously mentioned. Over the last couple of years, I have heard from at least three dozen people about reading my book (audiobook). In August of 2023, I worked each day to record The Focused Fight (TFF) with the intention of uploading it to Amazon. That is still a possibility. In the meantime...
I found a "podcast-y way" to bypass a lot of work to get it "Amazon-ready." It is using the Substack platform as the vehicle to get my recorded words and chapters out to those who can listen (drive, garden, relax) instead of reading—the best of both worlds. My aim is that by the end of September (Childhood Cancer Awareness Month begins Sunday, September 1, 2024), I'll have most, if not all, the recorded chapters available in your favorite place to listen to music/podcasts, such as Apple Music, Spotify, and others.
In fact, to get ready, I wrote my first Substack post today announcing the above. My lovely and wonderful readers (I am so thankful to each and every one of you) of this blog won't have to go far since I added the Substack tab to my website (I tested it out already, and it links seamlessly). I am super stoked to have the audiobook version out soon!
