Bonus Bee Bonanza!

When a month has five weeks, like January, and a 5th Wednesday to boot, the JSB (Just Sew Bee) takes advantage of something fun instead of the usual quilting/sewing bee at someone's home. Hey, I'm one to express that I love that too, but a bonus Bee is sort of an adventure that includes lunch and perhaps stopping at a quilt shop. Today's Bee was just that...and close (less than a 30-minute drive) in Hyattsville, Maryland (on the DC border).

The other big bonus was having our Arizona Bee Mate, Carrie Casto, accompany us. She is in town visiting family and had the morning and early afternoon available to hang out. We were all thrilled she could squeeze the quick trip with us into her travel plans.

Lunch at Franklin's, a bi-level brewpub with its quirky gift shop, serves American fare like burgers, steaks, and salads. Everything ordered by the seven of us looked yummy and delicious (my burger was!). Located in the heart of historic Hyattsville, MD, Franklins is Prince George's County's first microbrewery and the only combination restaurant, brewery, and toy store in the world. Yep, I gotta go back to the cool toy and game store.

The sweet quilt shop, Three Little Birds Sewing Company, was a couple blocks down from the restaurant, killing two birds with one stone, er, parking spot between the two brick and mortar buildings.

Another bonus was bee-mate Debbi Carter, who grew up in the neighborhood and shared her knowledge of the area so we could really feel the community of Hyattsville through her eyes.
