Boo Boo Bunny Funnies- Origin Part 2

Writer: Terri TomoffTerri Tomoff

Continuing with how Boo Boo Bunny became Ryan's Best Pal.

After a few days of settling on the shelf, I hoped and prayed that a loving little boy or girl would swoop me up. So many were running around in that tiny store, yelling and having big fun. I wanted in on all that action, like using me to play catch (I'm good getting thrown through the air, or I think I could handle it), but I still needed (hoped) to be hugged by someone soon. Being somewhat shy, I finally looked down and whispered to no one in particular, "Pick me, pick me!" Who was I kidding? Fat chance anyone could hear me, but I hoped that would happen. Those other bunnies on the shelf wanted no part in that, not that they weren't friendly and all. All the new bunnies were dressed like me in our cute white and blue striped pajamas, showing our adorable faces and lovable ears for gentle stroking, but I tried especially hard to be cute with my eyes to get out of dodge.

Ahhhh, the day had finally come.

A lady walked into the store on a hot summer day with her two little girls. Jodie was her name. I was frantically thinking (hoping once again!) that this may finally be the moment of my grand arrival into someone's arms— even someone who was not a tiny person that I practically screamed out loud in exasperation. And you know what? It was okay that Jodie walked down the aisle of the bunnies; she came in at the right time. As much as I wanted to be loved by a little person, I gotta say, I was a bit scared that Jodie would turn the corner and walk down another aisle of toys and games and never come back.

Located at the end of the aisle with a few other bunnies like me and The Good Night Moon books below us, I was wide awake in a nanosecond when Jodie started down our aisle, looking like she was on a mission. She had that look about her—scanning the shelves, running her fingers over the rows of books, and then...finding ME! My tiny, plush heart nearly leaped out of my stuffing. This was it! The moment I had been waiting for! I wasn’t just any bunny anymore—I was the bunny.

Finally!

Woohoo!!

Overjoyed!

Jodie stared right through me with a twinkle in both of our eyes, picked me up, and looked me over like a brand-new puppy. It only took seconds for her to put me under her arm like a running back's football while reaching down to pick up a copy of The Good Night Moon cardboard book and head to find her offspring.

Once Jodie's two girls were near the place where money was exchanged, they were all over me, kissing me and welcoming me to the family. Jodie had to gently remind them that the bunny and book were going to a brand new baby boy soon as their gift to him. So, off we went, tucked under Jodie's arm, with Annie carrying the book about a green room, a red balloon, and a quiet old lady who kept whispering hush.

I had no idea what the book was about (even though there was a bunny in it) or what lay ahead, but I knew I was going to a spanking new baby boy.

One thing was certain—my adventures were only beginning (and an unlimited supply of bedtime snuggles to boot!).
