#Celebrating Women and Daddy!

Writer: Terri TomoffTerri Tomoff

Today would have been my Dad’s 101st Birthday! He was a man of few words with a dry sense of humor. He was mysterious in some ways, but his three daughters always knew he fiercely loved us. Johnny, or Dad to us, continued to celebrate his daughters quietly. It may not have been overt or grandiose, but he cared deeply for us and our interests. I'll always be grateful for that and our celebrations!

But isn’t celebrating women an everyday thing? I like to think so, not only on one windy early March day. What about thousands of women doing brilliant things all over the world? Why can't we keep on celebrating them, and to a fault?

Speaking of jumping ahead with celebrations, we also had the time change this weekend in states that do it. I thought yesterday was Sunday for almost the entire day. There was a slight pause when I mentioned to my friend, Katy Dalgleish, living in California, on a quick call with her late afternoon that I’ll see her “tomorrow” on our Reachers Zoom call. She had to think momentarily and stated that today was only Saturday (that was yesterday). Sheesh! What was I thinking? Too much pickleball, I suppose.

As the rest of the folks would turn their clocks forward an hour for daylight savings yesterday, I was 24 hours ahead (or 23 hours?)! I was too confused to think more about it.

Turning back to the clock a few decades (!): our family's foray into celebrating young women (even toddlers). I think this was 1973 or 74—the Nolan Family: Sophie, Kimberly, Annette, Johnny, and me.
