A gem of a quick interview with Olympic Gold Medalist Dave Wottle on the campus of Bowling Green State University was a great moment in time for me. Dave revealed the gold nugget in how support is important to a loved one who passes away with a young family left behind. For example, he and his wife helped support their daughter and children with love and kindness as his son-in-law was in the battle of his life-fighting cancer - leukemia.

I am thankful that Dave gave me a few minutes of his time while he was between starting two cross-country races (men’s and women’s) at our alma mater and Homecoming Weekend, to boot!

Dave Wottle is celebrating the 50th anniversary of winning the Olympic Gold medal in the 800 M run at the Munich Games in September of 1972. Dave won the exciting race in the come-from-behind fashion race wearing his iconic baseball cap the world will never forget!
