How Do You Measure a Year?

The iconic song "Seasons of Love" from the Broadway play Rent is my go-to for rounding up another year. I love the theme of LOVE, and the lyrics of, how do we measure a year? Is it in sunsets, cups of coffee/tea, inches and miles, or happiness and strife? Maybe all of the above.

Yesterday, I recapped my year by listing the 12 months and highlights. I was kind of/sort of measuring out my year. To add to that "list" today, on New Year's Eve, I'd like to add, yes, to sunsets and cups of tea, but also cuddles from my first grandchild, a good putaway or dink in a pickleball game, special driving time with my son to his many medical appointments throughout the DMV, dates with my life and sometimes pickleball partner, Hubby Bill, when we drive to the pickleball club, reading a good book, being in the flow when I'm working on a quilt project (including LongArming on my HQAventé), a soft international landing, serendipity moments that cannot be adequately explained but still happen, the kindness of strangers and loved ones, watching my plants grow/bloom while I write on my hot seat (all while the sunshine filters through my window, giving light and nourishment), a great batch of chili or potato soup, quiet moments, a delicious CCC (chocolate chip cookie - you know when you know), a good fit with any new pair of shoes, a snail mail sent handwritten note, a long conversation with my sisters (including zooms with my sewing sisters), quilt bee, a messy desk that I can still find my stuff, tights with side pockets, and my daughter and her husband who welcome us often to their home to be with grandbaby Bodie, and them, of course!

As I Googled the "Seasons of Love" song, I zoned in on Idina Menzel's version, which I knew I wanted to include on this last day of 2024. Her voice is so pure and iconic, making this song proud. I hope you click on it and listen with me (it's about 3-4 minutes long).

Thank YOU to all my Manufacturing Sunshine readers of this blog. I wouldn't still be here today without your confidence in me to write and, hopefully, inform or at least entertain with all of life's goodness and craziness. It's both, right?

Once I hit the publish button in a few minutes, I will have posted my 725th one since I introduced this MS blog (with a total of 3,725 since 2012 - that is still hard for me to believe!).

I am humbled.

My heart is full and soaring high.

My word for 2025 will be the same as the last couple of years: Celebrate (every day is a celebration of something!).

Cheers, and I wish you a productive and healthy New Year in 2025!

bSoleille!

Terri
