Mom's Heavenly Birthday

NOTE: I wrote this post in another writing community yesterday, but I thought I would share it on my blog today.

My mom would have been 93 today. She had a tough life, but she and my dad raised three good girls not too far from downtown Cleveland, Ohio. She was also a loving grandmother to her seven grandchildren. It is not a "big" milestone, but it is to me and my family. One thing that gives me pause on certain days is when I open my computer for the day, and there is my Mom, one of close to 50,000 photos I have on my laptop. I bet tomorrow, there will be a photo of her staring right at me. Is it the algorithm? Is it her doing some angel magic to make sure we (or me) still remember her?

When Bill asked me for an idea for a Christmas present in 2020, my mom/Sophie died of Covid on 7/9/2020 after battling dementia for 15 years!), I said I wanted to honor my mom and came up with the idea of an outdoor quilt block (house art). I found a woman on Etsy who created these items, when I saw the cardinal block, that was it!

The saying goes, “Cardinals appear when Angels are near.” Because of this, many people have been associated with Cardinal sightings on their property to acknowledge their departed loved ones. We just may have been visited on many occasions! Our neighbors love the cardinal quilt block, and I've noticed some others have gone to add their own House Art to beautify the neighborhood even more.
