Two Little Birdies with Fightin' Words!

Writer's picture: Terri TomoffTerri Tomoff

The wreath bird brought in a friend today, but someone was unhappy, and we all heard about it. Maybe they are an old bird couple squabbling about food or others in their nest(s) that are not favorable to these two. They were flitting all over the two doors, landing on the wreath in my photo, then quickly flying around, seemingly chasing each other until they landed back on the wreath. So far, this only happens in the morning.

Today's photo was the third time they flitted away and landed, bickering the entire time. The cardinals and blue jays, out in full force all winter thus far, never seem to be in the front of the house or near these fake wreaths (smart ones, perhaps?). These two scrappers are either house finches or backyard house sparrows because I could identify a reddish chest on the one on the right. It looks like the one on the left is boring into my world through the glass and straight at me, perhaps wondering if I could help with the crazy one screaming in his/her face.

Frankly, I only needed to stand up from my desk chair, and they skedaddled away fast, but waited until their spat played out.

It's the little things...
