What's in a Name? How About WildT?

WildT is a name (moniker/nickname) I’ve used for over four decades in various scenarios —it is my name in Purple Space and when I play Pickleball nowadays. The genesis of the name is from my early college days. Then (and sometimes now…lol), I could break into a song or a party at a moment’s notice, no alcohol needed; hence WildT. To my teammates and roommates (many of whom are the same) who bestowed the play on my name— WildT— it seemed to fit me and stuck. Plus, I loved to pull fun-loving pranks, was a good Discjockey (playing L.P.'s) like no one’s business, and had fun and sprinkled cheer everywhere I went. If you've called me WildT, I thank you!

Of course, life gets more complicated as the birthdays add up. I’ve had many sad days interspersed with the good ones, and it’s the good ones I keep after and hold dear every single day in what I like to call Manufacturing Sunshine!

In today’s world, I not only use it as my name in Purple Space, but I resurrected the moniker when I sign up on the whiteboard for the next round of Pickleball play (four people to a block). At first, no one knew what to make of it, yet they didn’t ask me.

In the past two weeks, I’ve gotten many inquiries about why I write WildT (or Wild Ter) on the board. Maybe I’ve gotten to know the people better and, as a card-carrying extrovert, friendly to everyone! Perhaps the pickleballers are even more comfortable around me now, to ask, and of course, I welcome the small talk about using “Wild” in my name (there is not much time between games). And, I will add, when I say my name, “Terri,” typically a new person often says, “Sherry?” I say back, “No, Terri.” They’ll come back and say, “Carrie?” "Nope, it is “Terri.” Then, they will say, “Jerry, Mary, Larry???” and I’ll finally say, “WildT!”

Yesterday, one of my partners signed up/in for the block I started. She immediately added Wild to the other three players’ names to fill our block to play. That gave everyone a laugh! Oh, and if the tunes are on and LOUD, there’s a chance I’ll break into dance between serves!

Pickleball is another great name for this game that I can't get enough of!
